The OKC Thunder have made it to round two of the NBA playoffs and things are pretty crazy around the city, even with the younger fans.

It’s how they start the day at John Rex Elementary School. “All of the kids come in during arrival and they come in and they sit in their lines, and it is kind of like a party,” said John Rex third grade teacher Kate Reese.

After restoring some order, there were some business matters to attend to. “We do our pledges, we do our rocket creed,” said Reese.

On this day, there was a surprise presentation that none of the students knew about. “Our principal, Mrs. Ingram asked us to make some art for the Thunder and she said that we were going to make a banner and the kids were so excited,” said Reese.

The Thunder girls made a special trip to the school to thank the students and present the banner. “Our third graders a couple of weeks ago had the opportunity to make some signs for our Oklahoma City Thunder,” said John Rex Elementary School Principal Lena Ingram.

As the banner was revealed the third-grade students were completely caught off guard. “I got to see a little sneak peek, but they were super surprised today, this was the first time they had gotten to see it,” said Reese.

“This one was supposed to be Rumble, but since I couldn’t find the real picture on my Chrome book I just did it by myself,” said John Rex third grade student, Deacon. “So, I was kind of rushing, and it says, I hope you win the game,” said John Rex third grade student, Qiera,

Just a little encouragement for the team to keep winning. “It was just a fun activity for them to get to support their community,” said Reese.

The banner is proudly displayed on the south gate, outside the school, Showing their support for the Thunder.
